Practice Relating to Rule 85. The Use of Incendiary Weapons against Combatants
Colombia’s Basic Military Manual (1995) prohibits the use of weapons which “cause unnecessary and indiscriminate, widespread, long-term and severe damage to people and the environment. This includes, inter alia
: … incendiary weapons, whose production, importation, possession and use are also prohibited by Article 81 of the National Constitution.”
In 1977, during a debate in the First Committee of the UN General Assembly, Colombia supported the elimination of incendiary weapons.
