Practice Relating to Rule 52. Pillage
Finland’s Criminal Code (1889), as amended in 2008, provides that any person who “in connection with an assault or otherwise plunders a town or another corresponding place” shall be “sentenced for a
war crime to imprisonment for at least one year or for life”.

In 1990, during a debate in the UN Security Council relating to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Finland condemned acts of pillage committed by Iraq.
