On 12 February 2007, Senegalese Parliament adopted to comply with Senegal international obligations relating to counter-terrorism. Senegal is part of the 1997 International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings since 31 July 2003 and ratified the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism on 24 September 2004. This law modifies the Penal Code in order to further repress acts of terrorism. In particular, Article 279-1 provides for a definition for terrorism, including not only any act directed at disturbing public peace/order but also acts aimed at damaging environment (Article 279-2) as well as acts financing terrorism (Article 279-3). Acts of terrorism are sanction by forced labour or life imprisonment (Article 279-4).
