Summary

On 16 October 2006, the Law N° 2006-36 on the prohibition of the development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons and their destruction was promulgated by the President, implementing the 1993 Convention on the prohibition of chemical weapons at the national level.

Article 5 prohibits the development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons, military preparations to use chemical weapons, using riot control agents as methods of warfare. It also criminalizes inciting, aiding and abetting conducts contrary to the provisions.

Article 6 regulates production facilities as wells prohibits the trade of the chemicals listed in the tables annexed to the Convention. Article 20 further establishes inspection procedures.

Finally, Title IV prescribes penal sanctions for violations of the present law.
