National Implementation of IHL
Law on the use of the name and emblem of the red cross, 1912 (as of 2011)
Lege 30 giugno 1912, n. 740, Protezione dei feriti e dei malati in guerra e tutela dei segni internazionali di neutralità.

Amended by Law 603/1961, Law 689/1981 and Law 507/1999
Gazzetta Ufficiale.  (last accessed on 10.06.2013)

Although this law was adopted at the beginning of the twentieth century, its provisions are sufficiently broad to afford compliance with the obligations laid down in the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols (both ratified by Italy). In particular, they cover misuse of the emblem, both as a distinctive and a protective sign, in accordance with the current provisions of IHL.
